Abu Dhabi was once a small city where life revolved around the fishing and pearl industry, but the discovery of oil saw the capital of the United Arab Emirates transformed into one of the richest cities in the world.

The skyline of modern day Abu Dhabi is now dominated by towering skyscrapers and office blocks that reflect the role that big business has to play in the city.

Built between 1996 and 2007, the mosque is the main place for daily prayers in Abu Dhabi and can accommodate more than 40,000 people at any one time.
