Cairns is positioned towards the north of Queensland and is one of the premier destinations to visit in all of Australia.
That’s largely because the city acts the gateway the Great Barrier Reef, which runs for thousands of kilometres along the Queensland Coast and is regarded as one of the seven wonders of the natural world.
On a visit to Cairns, there are plenty of opportunities to head out and explore the reef, with the chance to go diving or snorkelling should you wish to get up close to the marine life or a series of boat trips if you prefer not to get your feet wet.
However, whilst the reef is the major selling point, it’s far from the only natural treat that can be enjoyed on a trip to Cairns.
Book a trip on the Kuranda Scenic Railway and you can enjoy a trip through stunning scenery that features mountains, waterfalls and deep ravines as you head into the Kuranda Rainforest.
Once in the forest there are various activities to enjoy, before a trip back to Cairns on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway – offering a unique viewpoint of the greenery below as you travel through the tree tops.
The Atherton Tableland and the tropical Daintree Rainforest – one of the oldest in the world – can also be visited during your time ashore.
Of course you might decide to spend your time in Cairns itself, with a range of options when it comes to dining and shopping across the city.
A stroll along the promenade gives the chance to enjoy views out to sea, with a lagoon where you can even take a refreshing dip if you wish.
