The capital city of Qatar, Doha is another popular choice for people exploring the Middle East on a cruise holiday.
Situated on the coast of the Persian Gulf, Doha is home to a large proportion of the Qatari population and has developed into the economic centre of the Emirate after the boom that followed the discovery of its natural resources.
As with the likes of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, there is much more to Doha than big business, with plenty of attractions for those who are taking a trip as part of their cruise around the region.
Although a large number of traditional old buildings have been demolished as the city has grown, there is the chance to see what Doha would have been like in years gone by with a visit to the Katara Cultural Village.
The village sits on the coast and houses various exhibitions, with a museum, amphitheatre and opera house all on site - along with a souk and restaurants where you can dine on traditional cuisine.
Doha is home to a number of museums that are well worth a visit, including the Museum of Islamic Art - widely regarded as one of the best museums anywhere in the Middle East.
Opened in 2008, the large building on the end of Doha’s seven kilometre long was designed to blend traditional and modern architecture and is home to the largest collection of Islamic art in the world.
The new National Museum of Qatar, which opened in early 2019 to replace the original Qatar National Museum, tells the story of Qatar through the ages and includes the palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani, whilst there is another popular museum located in the Al Koot Fort - which was built under the rule Al-Thani in the 1920s.
Should you want to spend some time in more peaceful surroundings, then Aspire Park is the largest park in Doha and houses the only lake in the city as well as the Aspire Tower, which was built for the Asian Games and is one of the tallest structures in the city.
