Hong Kong is another of Asia’s major commercial centres and as one of the most densely populated regions of the world, is a destination where you’ll never be short of things to do.
The bustling and busy city is a popular stopping off point for the major cruise lines that operate in the Far East and provides a fascinating blend of the old and new.
The new comes from the huge skyscrapers and modern hotels that are now a feature of the Hong Kong skyline whilst the old is reflected by the historical temples and colonial-era tong lau tenement buildings that can be found across the city.
You can take in plenty of the sights with a cruise around the harbour, with a range of activities available once you then head ashore.
Across the city you’ll find countless museums and galleries, whilst the Man Mo Temple and the Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery are two of the religious buildings that are well worth a visit.
You might also visit the Po Lin Monastery on nearby Lantau Island to marvel at the huge Buddha that is one of the largest in the world. The island is also home to a cable car that offers impressive views of the surrounding landscapes
A ride on the Peak Tram provides the chance to take in stunning views across the city from Victoria Peak, the highest point in Hong Kong, whilst also offering the opportunity to spend some time in more peaceful surroundings away from the busy streets below.
Once you’re done, the Stanley Market and the Temple Street Night Market are well worth a visit if you want to pick up some souvenirs whilst embracing the experience of visiting some of the most famous shopping districts in Asia.
It’s also fair to say that no trip to Hong Kong would be complete without sampling traditional dim sum cuisine – which is one of the real highlights of a trip to the Far East.
