Langkawi is made up of a collection of nearly 100 islands that are located off the Northwestern coast of Malaysia, with Langkawi Island itself being the one that is most popular with overseas visitors.
Famed for its natural beauty, Langkawi offers stunning scenery from the moment you step ashore, with everything from verdant rainforests and sandy beaches waiting to be explored.
One of the best ways to marvel at the scenery is with a ride on the Langkawi Cable Car, which takes you from the coast to the peak of Gunung Machinchang.
Once at the summit, you can take in stunning views across the rainforest below whilst a walk onto the SkyBridge will allow you to stroll above the canopy of the forest – offering a unique perspective of the beautiful island landscapes.
There are also various walking trails, a café where you can grab a bite to eat, shops and the SkyAdventure Park where a range of activities can be enjoyed by all ages.
Away from the forest, you might choose to spend some time at the beach, with the stretch of sand around Pantai Cenang, where golden sand lined with shops and cafes have made it one of the top destinations on the island.
The clear waters off the coast are also a great place in which to try your hand at diving or snorkeling thanks to a number of coral reefs that are to be found below the surface, whilst close to the beach you’ll find an aquarium teeming with various forms of marine life.
Other popular trips whilst ashore could see you head for the beautiful Telaga Tujuh waterfalls or to the towering peak of Gunung Raya; the highest point on the island.
There are also various Geoforest parks, the most popular of which is arguable Kilim Karst, where you can take a visit to a bat cave, cruise through the Pirate Lagoon or simply marvel at the local wildlife.
Whilst on Langkawi, you’ll have plenty of chances to sample traditional local cuisine, whilst the duty free nature of the island means you can pick up all manner of bargains to take back home at the end of your cruise.
