Roatan sits off the coast of Honduras and is a popular island amongst the ships that are sailing in the waters around the Caribbean.
The largest of the Bay Islands, Roatan is famed for pristine coral reefs and stunning stretches of beach where you can lie back and make the most of the sun should you simply want to relax when you head ashore.
These beaches tend to be lined with golden sand, whilst the clear blue waters are inviting for those who want to simply want to get their feet wet, and teeming with marine life for those who want to get closer to nature.
Snorkeling is one popular attraction, whilst there are no shortage of places where more experienced divers can go below the surface in order to explore the reefs and shipwrecks that surround the coastline.
Those reefs are part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, which is the second largest in the world after the Great Barrier Reef and arguably the biggest draw for people considering a visit to the island.
There is also the possibility of sampling various watersports, or of enjoying the once in a lifetime experience of swimming with dolphins.
Dotted around the coast are various small villages where you can really see what local life is all about, with the chance to pick up traditional souvenirs or to sample island cuisine in small cafes and bars.
You can also explore the culture of the Garifuna people, who settled on the island in the late 1790s.
Away from the coastal regions, the impressive Carambola Botanical Gardens cover an area of 40 acres and offer somewhere to take a stroll along a number of jungle trails.
Marvel at scenic landscapes and get close to native wildlife as you walk through the gardens and see the other side of the island.
