San Juan is one of the most visited ports to be found anywhere in the Caribbean, with the capital of Puerto Rico being a fixture on the itinerary of many of the large ships sailing in the area.
The island is famed for the combination of impressive beaches that are lined with clear waters and mile after mile of coral reefs and green woodland and forests that make Puerto Rico a true tropical paradise in the heart of the many islands that make up the Caribbean.
For those who are heading to San Juan, the most popular part of the city is the historical Old Town – another of the Caribbean’s UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The walled city is home to a number of attractions, which include the historic Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which dates back to the 16th century and the Castillo San Cristobal, which was built by the Spanish to help with the defence of the city.
La Fortaleza – the oldest govenor’s mansion on US soil - can also be found within the Old Town.
Take a stroll through the cobbled streets and you’ll be able to marvel at the impressive architecture, pay a visit to various galleries and museums or visit all manner of restaurants to grab a bite to eat.
There is also no shortage of options when it comes to shopping, particularly if you have a desire to try and find some hand made crafts to take back home as a reminder of your visit.
Should you want to relax, then there are various beaches where you can sit back and take it easy, with Condado being particularly popular.
The strip of golden sand sits alongside clear waters where you can take a refreshing dip, whilst there are cafes alongside the nearby strip to grab refreshments.
You might also enjoy a trip to Casa Bacardi, to take a tour of the famous rum distillery or a visit to the El Yunque Rainforest where you can take a hike through the woodland or enjoy various outdoor activities – which range from zip-lining through the treetops to taking a dip in one of the various plunge pools around the many waterfalls.
