The Whitsunday Islands lie off the coast of Queensland and are one of the most stunningly beautiful areas of Australia – so it’s no surprise to see that many of the major cruise lines operate trips that visit the area.
With visitors taken ashore by tender, you’ll either head for the mainland to Airlie Beach or go directly into the heart of the Whitsundays and the resort of Hamilton Island.
Should you arrive in Airlie Beach then you can visit the bars and shops of this lively coastal town, but it is the islands themselves that the main draw.
Hamilton Island is one of the most visited of the Whitsundays and is home to a large National Park that you can explore thanks to a network of walking trails.
With the island being arguably the most focused on the tourist market, there are various facilities available, including bars and restaurants, a golf course and the chance to try out various watersports.
Elsewhere, Whitsunday Island itself is popular because it provided the chance to visit Whitehaven Beach, which has long been regarded as one of the best in the world.
The pristine stretch of white sand runs for some seven kilometres along the coastline and is well worth checking out, with the clear blue waters being more than inviting when it comes to taking a dip.
Regardless of which of the 70 plus islands you visit, stunning scenery and the chance to get close to nature is guaranteed, creating life long memories in the process.
Whilst in the Whitsundays, you can also head out on a glass-bottomed boat to explore the Great Barrier Reef, with the chance to go snorkelling or diving if you want to get even closer to one of the great wonders of the natural world.
